Earth day was two days ago and I didn’t write this blog post because I was out enjoying the glorious day. So, I am writing today because I am inspired to + now that we are also a few days into Taurus season, the Zodiac sign that ushers in the birth of the earth, a mothering, giving, peaceful time where there is abundance abound.
It truly is a strange time now, where everything is calling us outside and we are being told to stay inside out of our parks and our beaches, the public outdoors where we all seem to long to wander this time of year. There are safe ways around it where you are wandering the earth alone along trails that are less traveled and “secret spots” that only few know, but neither here nor there, we still can, in some way, get the fresh air we crave at this point in the year when we all begin to seep out into the great outdoors and into Mother Nature’s arms.
The Elements
When you venture out you become aware of the bounty that we are subject to on planet earth + the true governing forces that provide for us, the four elements, Earth, Water, Air and Fire. During this time we are reminded that interacting with these forces of nature are truly what keeps us connected to our divine system.
Astrology
If you’re knowledgeable in astrology it is believed that we, in essence, contain all of the elements inside of us within our birth charts. Each house is “flavored” by a governing zodiac sign that is ruled by one of the four elements of nature. The elements also “flavor” the planets as well. Each archetype is essentially an embodiment of the elements that rule over the planets, signs and houses of the Zodiac. I find that in talking about the elements of nature I want to mention this because if you ever dive deeper into astrology this is, in my opinion, the number one important piece of information that will help guide you in learning the fundamentals of the system. You will also notice that many other “systems”, like religion and national holidays are guided by and peppered with the same archetypes. Really, keep an eye open and look for it, you’ll see!
Earth
Beautiful, bountiful, dry, sandy, fertile, moist, dirt, rock, valleys, trees, strong and unwavering. Holding space, a container for all that needs.
Waves crash into the absorbing shores, “I have you, I’ll hold you.”
Mountains that tower and span, “I will wait, here I stand.”
Trees that cover and shelter, “I will bend, I will bloom, I will release, never too soon.”
Lands that foil over hills and valleys “I will provide, I am fertile and boundless.”
Carved trails and paths, “I will guide you, tread light and follow keenly.”
Water
Open, flowing, transmitting, rivers, oceans, frozen, streams, pure, fluid, rain, sharp, stealth and all enveloping. Floating and drowning, back and forth like the tides. The pull and the pulse, shimmering like diamonds freckled across the banks.
Rapid and still, “I feel you, I bring forth.”
Steady and swells, “I wash over you and bleed through the tightest crevasses.”
Slick, cold and solid, “I reflect and I am sharp, cutting with a clean gash.”
Glimmering, “I am steady and I rage. When I float, listen, my stillness is quiet peace.”
Air
Gliding, light, swaying above the atmosphere, changing, fog, sticky dense and bitter.
“I will carry a tune, an owl’s wings, his boon. I play tricks, scatter and spread. I grow fire, sparks fly past your head.”
Tussle and shift. “Forever I’ll keep you wild + free.”
Laid on thick, can’t see ahead, rolling across starting to tread.
“I will give you a push. I wont let you down.”
Fire
Flicker, glowing, coals, yearning warmth + smokey ash.
Rise up. “I will light the way. Follow me.”
Just a spark is all you need. Gather wood, twigs and smolder. “Come on over, bring a bolder.”
Gather round the fireside, down the stone the flint will glide. The chats will flow, go ‘head let the cold wind blow.
“I’ll keep it burning so our shadows can play. We can stay up until night becomes day.”
Passion and fury, envy and marrow, staked across the flame on the end of an arrow. The warmth and the heat, “I’ll tell you a story that'll keep you on the edge of your seat.”
The things we can learn if we watch, if we listen, the things we realize we are and what we were given. Look what this Earth provides.
Happy Earth Day.
